Our Partners in the North East

We’re working with Durham County Council to improve their garden waste collection and processing by reducing contamination from plastic and packaging.
We are aiming to produce, a clean, contaminant free compost that is suitable for use in horticulture and can be part of the mix to replace peat composting.
Trials will begin in 2024.

Net Zero North East England is a collaborative partnership working to create a greener, more equal and sustainable future across the North East of England. The organisation brings together leaders in a wide range of sectors, working towards the Paris Climate targets and UK net zero strategy.

The North East Recycling Forum is the one stop shop for waste and recycling events in the North East of England. They have run for over 25 years in the North East of England and have built a strong network of waste professionals. They host 4 meetings per year, including our Annual Conference each November.

Our National Partners

Garden Organic promotes organic growing and composting, citizen science and research, and seed conservation through its Heritage Seed Library. We want to help people garden 'the organic way', using natural, eco-friendly methods to promote healthy, productive, sustainable gardens.

G K Benford & Co run a 160 ha mixed farm but have diversified to include a green waste composting site where around 300 local gardeners, landscapers and tree surgeons bring their green waste to us to be composted. Most of the compost G K Benford’s produce is spread onto our farmland and the land of surrounding farmers to reduce the need for inorganic fertilisers, with small quantities sold to our customers. As far as practically possible, all waste brought to us is recycled, placing emphasis on the importance of waste reduction.

The HTA is the leading trade association representing and supporting businesses in the UK garden industry. With a membership comprising retailers, growers, manufacturers, and landscapers, the HTA actively advocates for the sector, fostering growth, sustainability, and innovation.
The HTA is also a member of the AIPH, European Nurserystock Association (ENA), European Forestry Nursery Association (EFNA) and Growing Media Europe (GME).
As the UK transitions to peat-free growing media, the horticultural sector needs to have a steady supply of sustainable, affordable and quality replacements. Grower members of the HTA have been trialling various alternatives for a number of years. They are keen to use the results from Enrich The Earth’s trials with organic waste to learn how this can be improved to benefit both professional growers and home gardeners on a larger scale.

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK employs over 6,000 people, operating across hundreds of sites, and handles in excess of 10 million tonnes of wasted materials every year including the provision of food waste collection and treatment from both businesses and homes.
There is a national need to reduce food waste and to put any food that is wasted to good use. Food waste remains a big issue in the UK, not only is it having a huge negative impact on our planet, but it’s also costing households and businesses real cash (hundreds and in some cases thousands of pounds annually), which isn’t sustainable financially or environmentally. We’re pleased to support Enrich the Earth on its manifesto and its call for a “compost revolution” to increase the proportion of households composting at home whilst decreasing levels of contamination in our garden and food waste bins.
It’s essential that we see a rapid reduction in the levels of contamination in food and green waste so the compost we make is of better quality and therefore more usable, something we have real world experience of trying to manage through our collection services and associated communications campaigns.
